Creative Writing
Strengthening Core Writing Skills
For junior learners in Grades 4-5   


In this course, students will develop a strong understanding of different types of creative writing forms through instruction and practice. They will also learn how to express their thoughts and ideas in new and exciting ways.

Every class students will receive instruction from the teacher, class work, and homework. Students will frequently have the opportunity to work together in pairs or in groups in order to socialize and share ideas. The creative process can often be enhanced through teamwork.

The subjects of focus will be:

  • Fiction
  • Poetry
  • Drama
  • Nonfiction (Personal and Journalistic Writing)

By the end of the course, students will have produced a diverse body of creative works of which they can be proud, with feedback to guide them in the future. They will have learned how to give and take constructive criticism and strive for self-improvement in their writing. Most of all, they will have developed a passion for writing as well as an awareness of what the written word can accomplish.

Emily Zarevich is a graduate from Wilfrid Laurier University with a Bachelor of Arts in Honours English. She obtained her TESL certificate from Humber College. An enthusiast of great writing in all its forms, she looks forward to working with your child and helping them find their creative voice.
