Course Description

In this course, students will critically engage with the French language and develop a strong understanding of its grammatical structure and culture. Through effective instruction and practice, students will foster an interest for the language and its cultural relevance within Canada. We will focus heavily on grammar, vocab, common phrases and oral communication in preparation for the upcoming school year.

Course Aims

  • Developing French vocabulary, reading, writing, listening, grammar and speaking skills
  • Developing a strong understanding of language structure
  • Engaging in short conversations and descriptive speech
  • Examining French culture within Canada and worldwide

Grades: 1 - 4

Time: 5:30 - 6:30 pm every Thursday

Date: July 6 to August 24, 2017 8 weeks

Cost: $160 + HST

About the Instructor Ms. Sahana Mahendirarajah:  With a Bachelor of Arts, specializing in children’s studies and French from York University, Sahana has spent the last 5 years tutoring learners from diverse backgrounds, different educational levels, varying learning strategies, and most importantly, unique personalities. She works towards engaging students with the French and English language in a critical manner, allowing them to foster life long critical thinking skills. She also holds a TESL diploma, allowing her to teach English as a second language effectively.

 

Intermediate

Course Description

 In this course, students will critically engage with the French language, developing a solid understanding of its grammatical structure, effective oral communication skills, and culture. Through instruction and dedicated practice, students will develop their listening, reading, writing and oral communication skills. Focus will be given to improving writing, reading and oral skills for the upcoming school year.

 

Course Aims

  • Augmenting French vocabulary, reading, writing, listening, grammar and speaking skills
  • Engaging in lengthy conversations, speeches, creative presentations and interviews
  • Examining case studies of French culture within specific parts of the world

Grades: 3 - 6

Time: 6:30-8:00 pm every Thursday

Date: July 6 to August 24, 2017 8 weeks

Cost: $260 + HST
