Course Description

This course is designed to help students develop their oral communication skills. Students will explore public speaking through a variety of activities including games, speaking exercises and presentations. Students will learn and practice speaking in formal and informal settings with confidence and ease.

The class will focus on speaking clearly and fluently, with confidence. Students will also learn about the barriers to success such as stress and nervousness and how to manage these feelings. The final class will be dedicated to students formally presenting a short speech to their peers, family and friends.

 

Course Aims

  • Focus on speaking with confidence and ease in a variety of situations.
  • Develop proper format of a speech and outline how to properly research and write for formal and informal situations.
  • Develop strategies that help cope with nervousness or stress around public speaking.
  • Build language and listening skills to respond appropriately to a variety of academic and social situations.

 

Grades: 4-6

Class times: 5:00-6:00pm every Tuesday  

Class Dates: July 11 to August 29, 2017, total 8 weeks

Cost: $180.00 + HST

 

About the Instructor Mrs. Darcy:  Darcy is a recent graduate from Brock University acquiring her bachelor of education. She is an occasional teacher with a teachable in geography and a passion for English, History and Geography, Darcy aims to improve the speaking and writing of all her students by providing them the tools and strategies they will need for success.
