Course Description 

Read Write Explore gives students the opportunity to practice key reading and writing skills which will help them excel in learning. This program helps ensure that children are introduced to fundamental literacy skills as they move through the stages of reading and writing on the way to becoming more independent learners.

Supported by effective research methods, our strategy helps build and strengthen core literacy skills in the following areas: print awareness, phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and writing.

Course Aims

  • read and retell familiar stories
  • develop core reading strategies including re-reading, predicting, questioning, and contextualizing to ensure strong comprehension
  • develop oral reading skills
  • identify an increasing number of words by sight to help with reading and writing activities
  • use letter-sound associations, word parts, and contexts to identify new words
  • develop basic writing skills

Grades: 1-3

Class times: 4:30-5:30 pm every Wednesday

Class Dates: July 12 to August 30, 2017, total 8 weeks

Cost: $150.00 + HST

About the Instructor Ms. Darcy Breakey:  Ms. Darcy Breakey graduated from the Teacher’s College of Brock University with bachelor of education. She also holds a B.A degree in International Development Studies. She is passionate in teaching English, History and Geography. Ms. Breakey loves to help students improve the speaking and writing skills by providing them with the tools and strategies needed for success.
