    How Do We Prepare Students for Math Contests

    • Review Concepts - The course begins with a review of the key math concepts that are covered in the Waterloo contests.
    • Learn Proper Format - Students will learn and practice how to answer questions in proper format for maximized result.
    • Practice Tests - Students will take sample contests for identifying areas of strengths and weaknesses.
    • Work on Areas of Focus – Our teacher will revisit areas where the students need more practice until the concepts are understood completely.
    • Practice on Past Contests – Students will repeatedly exercise their knowledge of math concepts to be used in the contest by taking past tests.
    • Individualized Tests – Students will be administered individualized tests for the areas where they need the most focus.
    • Develop Best Approach – With ongoing feedback, practice and strategy support, students will master not only the concepts but also develop the best approach to tackle the test for their best performance.

    Ms. Luisa, BA in Math Education, MSc in Mathematics

    Ms. Luisa has been teaching with OAKLearing for four years. She has 25 years rich experience in teaching mathematics with exceptional expertise in teaching grade 10-12 math subjects, AP and SAT math as well as coaching math competitions. Ms. Luisa is currently working at Halton Public School Board. Her love of math since young, rich teaching experience, clear-cut teaching methods have helped many students to excel in their math learning journey.

    What students will learn in the Prep Courses

    Familarize contest format

    Students will learn the structure of the contest in order to be prepared for how to best tackle it.

    Identify areas of focus

    Students will identify math concepts and knowledge gaps where they require further learning and more practice.

    Solidify math knowledge

    Repetition of individulaized practice contest by the students will ensure that math concepts are not only known, but mastered.

    Learn time management

    Students will learn and practice strategies for where to focus their energy and time to maximize the number of questions they can answer corectly. 

    Practice to mastery

    Students will take sample contest tests to become experts in the concepts and knowledge that make up the contest.

    Develop sefl-confidence

    Students will have learned tips and tricks for how to do their very best which will enable them to focus without being inhibited with the negative aspects of test taking stressors.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    Where can I register for the contest?

    The CEMC math contests do not accept individaul registration by students. Registration and administration for the contests are done through Contest Schools partnered with CEMC. Please contact your current school for registration. 

    Is there any specific requirement to participate the cemc math contests?

    The only requirement for participant is the age, in fact, grade limit - a student cannot participate a contest designed for a lower grade. For example, for a student in grade 8, he/she can participate Gauss contest for grade 8, but he/she cannot participate Gauss contest for grade 7.

    What is the deadline for registering a contest?

    The registration deadline for Gausss contests is April 25, 2023. 

    do i need to buy any course material or text book?

    You don't need to buy any thing for this course. All materials will be provided electronically.

    Does the course fee include contest fee?

    Contest fee is different from the fee of this preparation course. Contest fee is charged by CEMC. Therefore contest fee is not included in the course fee.
