Learn to write through reading. This course helps ensure that students can build on fundamental literacy skills as they move through the stages of reading and writing on their way to becoming more independent learners.

This course provides Grade 3 and 4 students with a broad-based education in key skills of reading and writing. Students receive in-depth, step-by-step instruction in a variety of foundational writing activities, from narrative to opinion pieces to summaries, supported throughout by close reading practices.

This course aims to have students engage with reading material from various subjects and practice essential language art skills in relation to reading and writing as they collaborate, communicate, and use their creativity.

Course Description: This course provides Grade 5 and 6 students with a broad-based education in key skills of reading and writing. Students receive in-depth, step-by-step instruction in a variety of writing activities, from personal narratives to report writing. A strong emphasis is placed on close reading and analysis.

In this course, students will receive instruction from the teacher, and class work and homework will focus on the highly prized art of short story reading and writing. Students will frequently have the opportunity to experiment with short story composition and critical thinking. Students will also be educated on famous/classic short story writers, focusing on their biographies and work.

Course Description: This course provides Grade 7 and 8 students with a broad-based education in key skills of reading and writing. Students receive in-depth, step-by-step instruction in a variety of writing activities key to success in high school, from literary analysis to argumentative writing, supported throughout by close reading practices.

Taught by the highly experienced public speaking trainer and professional performer Ms. Moyle, this engaging course trains students on how to use critical-thinking skills to develop strategies for persuasion and convincing, and how to develop confident oral speaking skills while students: (1) engage in respectful and effective discussions on contemporary issues (Harkness Discussions, expression of opinions); (2) develop a variety of written presentation strategies that are appropriate for different audiences (appeals, speeches, defenses); (3) demonstrate effective vocal and body language techniques for both on and off-line presentations; (4) demonstrate the ability to organize ideas coherently in presentations and discussions while using the correct conventions of English appropriate for the audience settings.

Summer is the perfect time to engage your kids with a personalized learning platform to improve or enrich concept mastery in Math and English. At the same time, the main goal of the Summer Session Course of our Advanced Learner's Club is to provide every student with a customized learning path that caters to his or her strengths, needs, and skills. These intensive week-long courses synergize Math and English language skills in a rigorous and fulfilling scholastic experience. Students can join just one week to get a taste of it or participate in as many as six weeks of courses to take advantage of personalized learning. Each class is 2 hours long and will cover contents and skills in math, English reading, and English writing.

Advanced Learner's Club is a place for motivated students to polish their Math and English language skills during the school year. Every week, students in the club come to meet their personal tutor and work on their personalized learning materials in their customized learning path based on the student's periodic Adaptive Assessment report.

This French course is for students at beginner levels. It introduces students to the basic underpinnings of the French language and supplements French content encountered in school classes for students who have just started learning French.

Learning outcomes include, but are not limited to, (a) Understanding French sounds; (b) Recognize the use and purpose of different accents; (c) Able to apply their learned skills in small group practice; (d) Build literacy foundation of French.

Class content is subject to change based on student's existing skills.

This Course will build upon student's previously acquired French skills after a successful completion of a Beginners level review. Students will work on grammatical structures with the French language so that students are able to read, write, listen, and speak in French aiming to perform well in their French classes in school. Students are expected to speak as much French as possible throughout the course. As regular class activities, question words, short statements, expressions, and phrases will be reviewed constantly in the course.

Learning Outcomes include, but are not limited to, (a) Read fluently; (b) Understand French expressions and all the components of a sentence; (c) Work in small groups to practice their verbal French freely; (d) Self-correct their written and verbal French skills.

This Course will increase student's knowledge, understanding and skills of using French as a foreign language. It is expected that all conversation in this course is in French.

Learning Outcomes include, but not limited to, (a) Learn how to write complex sentences in different tenses (présent (present), imparfait (imperfect), passé simple (simple past), futur simple (simple future), passé composé (perfect), plus-que-parfait (pluperfect); (b) Write descriptive short stories about topics of their choice; (c) Work in small groups to practice their verbal French skills and be able to have a free-flowing conversation; (d) Self-correct their written and verbal French skills.

This course enables students to develop an understanding of mathematical concepts related to algebra, analytic geometry, measurement, and geometry through investigation, the effective use of technology, and abstract reasoning. Students will investigate relationships, which they will then generalize as equations of lines, and will determine the connections between different representations of a linear relation. They will also explore relationships that emerge from the measurement of three-dimensional figures and two-dimensional shapes. Students will reason mathematically and communicate their thinking as they solve multi-step problems.

The course is designed to foster the development of knowledge and skills that Grade 8 students need to succeed in their subsequent mathematics courses in high school. Grade 9 students are also encouraged to participate as this course reviews many key points of Grade 9 Math as further preparation for a higher level of math learning.

This course enables students to broaden their understanding of relationships and extend their problem-solving and algebraic skills through investigation, the effective use of technology, and abstract reasoning. Students will explore quadratic relations and their applications, solve and apply linear systems, verify properties of geometric figures using analytic geometry, and investigate the trigonometry of right and acute triangles. Students will reason mathematically and communicate their thinking as they solve multi-step problems.

The course is designed to foster the development of knowledge and skills that Grade 9 students need to succeed in their subsequent mathematics courses. Grade 10 students are also encouraged to participate as this course reviews many key points of Grade 10 Math as further preparation for a higher level of math learning.

This course introduces the mathematical concept of the function by extending students' experiences with linear and quadratic relations. Students will investigate properties of discrete and continuous functions, including trigonometric and exponential functions; represent functions numerically, algebraically, and graphically; solve problems involving applications of functions; investigate inverse functions; and develop a facility for determining equivalent algebraic expressions. Students will reason mathematically and communicate their thinking as they solve multi-step problems.

The course is designed to foster the development of knowledge and skills that Grade 10 students need to succeed in Functions. Grade 11 students are also encouraged to join for review as Functions leads to critical grade 12 4U-level math courses that are required for many university applications.
